In his acclaimed 1987 debut The Commitments, Roddy Doyle introduced the lovable character of Jimmy Rabbitte, a working class Dubliner who manages a scruffy R&B band. (Along with The Snapper and the Booker prize finalist The Van, Jimmy's story is known as The Barrytown Trilogy.)
